A remarkable milestone has been achieved in Tanzania's education sector, with an incredible 937,581 young Tanzanians securing their future through secondary school studies. This news, announced by the Prime Minister's Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government (TAMISEMI), is a testament to the country's commitment to education.
But here's where it gets controversial: TAMISEMI Minister, Professor Riziki Shemdoe, revealed that this number represents 100% of all candidates who passed the Primary School Leaving Examination this year. Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, Prof. Shemdoe explained that the selection process focused on candidates with scores ranging from 121 to 300 marks.
"This is a significant achievement, as it ensures that every eligible student has the opportunity to continue their education," Prof. Shemdoe stated. The selection process has been meticulous, ensuring that no deserving student is left behind.
Among the selected students, 508,477 are girls, and 429,104 are boys. This gender balance is a step towards creating equal opportunities for all. Additionally, 3,228 students with special needs, including 1,544 girls and 1,684 boys, have been accommodated in government secondary schools.
"We strive to provide an inclusive education system," Prof. Shemdoe emphasized.
Furthermore, 815 high-performing students, comprising 335 girls and 480 boys, have been placed in top national secondary schools, such as Ilboru, Msalato, and Kibaha. These schools are known for their academic excellence and will provide an exceptional learning environment.
Prof. Shemdoe also highlighted that 3,441 students have been selected for vocational boarding schools, with a gender breakdown of 1,279 girls and 2,162 boys. Additionally, 7,360 students, including 5,014 girls and 2,346 boys, will attend national boarding secondary schools.
This comprehensive approach to education ensures that students have diverse pathways to choose from, catering to various interests and talents.
