Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Diet Supplement Powder Affects 45 People Across 21 States
A recent health alert has revealed a concerning outbreak of salmonella poisoning, affecting at least 45 individuals across 21 states. The culprit? A diet supplement powder brand called Super Greens, produced by Superfoods Inc. The affected products, including the original and wild berry flavors, were recalled due to potential contamination with salmonella bacteria.
The recall was issued by the company after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified the link between the supplement and the illnesses. The affected products had expiration dates ranging from August 2026 to January 2028. It is crucial for consumers to refrain from consuming, selling, or serving these products and to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning typically appear within hours or days after consuming contaminated food. These symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. While most people recover without medical intervention within a week, the illness can be severe and even life-threatening for vulnerable populations, such as children under 5, adults over 65, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The affected products were distributed nationwide, and the illnesses were reported between August 22 and December 30, 2025. At least 12 people were hospitalized, but thankfully, no fatalities have been reported. The FDA's ongoing investigation suggests that additional products may be contaminated, emphasizing the importance of consumer vigilance and prompt action in recalling potentially harmful items.
