Kawasaki KLE500 SE Review: Off-Road Adventure with MCN's Saff! (2026)

The Kawasaki KLE500 SE: A Trail-Ready Companion for the Commute

The world of motorcycles is a fascinating one, and the KLE500 SE from Kawasaki is a prime example of how a bike can be both versatile and capable. In my opinion, this bike is a game-changer for those who want to venture off the beaten path without compromising on comfort and style. So, I decided to take it for a spin, both on the road and off, and here's what I found.

The KLE500 SE is a machine designed for mild off-road riding, and it certainly delivers on that front. Its 50/50 IRC Trail Winner tires and 194kg weight make it a formidable partner for those who want to explore the trails without breaking a sweat. I was surprised by its ability to conquer rutted, stony tracks, and its all-round poise was impressive, even with my rusty off-road skills. However, I did encounter some challenges, such as the ABS system, which required some fine-tuning to get the most out of the bike.

One thing that immediately stands out is the slightly bigger bash plate of the SE compared to the standard model. This is a wise investment, as I bottomed out numerous times, even at a steady pace. The KLE500 SE stayed upright and conquered all, which is a testament to its build quality and design. However, I did notice that the rear suspension could be stiffened up a touch, as I found it to be a bit soft compared to the Suzuki DR-Z4S.

Swapping bikes with Carl Stevens, I had a right giggle on his DR-Z4S as it lapped up the lumps. The KLE500 SE, on the other hand, was a bit comfier on the tarmac, but ultimately, it tackled the same trails as the DR-Z4S and left me smiling at the end. The stats speak for themselves: 1887 miles this month, 68mpg, and a total cost of £122.67 for fuel and £265.05 for the first service.

In my opinion, the KLE500 SE is a confidence-building machine that is perfect for those who want to venture off the beaten path without compromising on comfort and style. Its ability to tackle mild off-road riding and its all-round poise make it a standout choice for those who want to explore the trails without breaking a sweat. So, if you're looking for a bike that can handle both the road and the trail, the KLE500 SE is definitely worth considering.
