Get ready for an intense rugby showdown as the Stormers, leading the United Rugby Championship (URC), gear up for a crucial match against their South African rivals, the Bulls. Despite the Stormers' impressive winning streak, Evan Roos, a key player, remains cautious.
The Bulls, currently on a five-match losing streak, are determined to turn things around. Roos, however, isn't taking them lightly, expecting a fierce battle.
"Every team aims for excellence in the URC," Roos shared. "We've stuck to our game plan, and the results speak for themselves. Now, we must continue raising our standards and improving with each game."
While the two teams have had contrasting fortunes this season, Roos believes derbies bring out the best in players.
"It's going to be physical, no doubt. South African players always rise to the occasion in these north-south derbies."
But here's where it gets interesting: Roos, despite being a standout for the Stormers, has had limited opportunities with the Springboks. He made just one appearance for the world champions in 2025, coming off the bench in South Africa's dominant win over Italy.
In Saturday's derby, Roos could face potential Springbok rivals like the Bulls' Cameron Hanekom and Elrigh Louw. However, he insists he won't be focused on proving himself to Rassie Erasmus, the Boks' boss.
"Individual head-to-heads don't motivate me," he explained. "Going into a match with that mindset is selfish. I'm committed to doing what's best for the team this weekend."
So, will Roos' performance in this derby catch the eye of the Springbok selectors? And how will the Stormers fare against the determined Bulls? Stay tuned for an action-packed rugby spectacle!
