A New Chapter for David Kämpf: Baby on Board and a Fresh Start with the Canucks!
David Kämpf, an eight-year NHL veteran, has had quite the rollercoaster ride recently. After being cut from the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster and enduring a brief stint in the minors, Kämpf found himself without a team. But here's where it gets controversial... Toronto terminated his contract, and Kämpf quickly signed a new deal with the Vancouver Canucks, a fresh opportunity for him to showcase his skills.
And this is the part most people miss: amidst all the hockey drama, Kämpf and his wife, Eliška, have some exciting news! They're expecting their second child, a bundle of joy due in March 2026. The Kämpfs shared the news on Instagram, with a heartwarming photo of their son Michael and their dog Dobby, announcing the arrival of a new family member.
In a sweet twist, their son Michael donned a knitted sweater that said "velký brácha" - Czech for "big brother" - a cute way to reveal the pregnancy. Michael, their firstborn, was born in 2022, and now he'll soon have a sibling to play with.
Kämpf, after a challenging few weeks, expressed his excitement about joining the Canucks. He mentioned the presence of fellow Czech players on the team, something he lacked in Toronto. "I know [Filip Hronek] a little bit from the past, so it's nice to have some Czech guys on the team. Last couple of years, I had nobody, so it's always good to have some familiar faces," he said.
Aside from Hronek, the Canucks roster includes two other Czech players: Filip Chytil and goaltender Jiri Patera. Kämpf, a 30-year-old center, also opened up about his recent journey, saying, "Last couple of weeks was a little bit harder, but I'm happy I'm here and I can play again. It's been a busy few days, but I'm ready to hit the ice."
During his time with the Leafs, Kämpf averaged an impressive eight goals and 23 points per 82 games. Now, with a new team and a growing family, Kämpf is ready to write a new chapter in his hockey career. Will he lead the Canucks to victory? Only time will tell.
What do you think? Is this a fresh start for Kämpf, or will he face more challenges? Share your thoughts in the comments!
