In a world saturated with fleeting digital images, what if art could offer a sanctuary of stillness? A solo oil painting exhibition by Chinese artist Zhao Xiaohui has just opened in New York City, inviting viewers to do just that. At the opening, Grammy-winning animation artist Josh Selig highlighted the stark contrast between Zhao's paintings and the visual onslaught of modern life. Renowned Chinese art theorist Wang Zhong, former editor-in-chief of the Art Magazine at the China Artists Association, sent handwritten congratulatory remarks to the exhibition. Wang, now 81 years old, praised Zhao's lifelong dedication to realism, craftsmanship, and spiritual depth. He penned a message that art transcends politics, race, and time, concluding with the phrase, "the flower scent remains unchanged." This beautiful metaphor speaks volumes about artistic integrity and its enduring power.
Zhao's artistic journey began in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province. In 1986, she entered the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, initially studying traditional Chinese painting. Later, she transitioned to oil painting in the United States, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree from the New York Academy of Art in 1999. Her work has been showcased in both China and the United States for over four decades, a true testament to her dedication.
