Emergency services have been called to a critical incident in Cheshire, bringing trains to a standstill. The incident, which occurred in Winsford, has led to significant disruptions across the rail network. According to National Rail, the emergency services are currently handling an issue between Crewe and Runcorn/Warrington Central, causing all lines between these stations to be closed. This has resulted in train cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, and revised schedules.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix confirms that trains have stopped while emergency services address the incident at Winsford. The disruption is affecting Avanti West Coast's services between London and Edinburgh, as well as the London Northwestern service between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street.
London Northwestern has provided the following advice to customers: rail replacement transport is in operation between Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway. Passengers can use their tickets on the following services without additional charges:
- Merseyrail between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street
- Transport for Wales between Crewe and Chester, and Chester and Liverpool Lime Street
Avanti West Coast passengers are informed that their tickets are valid on the following services, at no extra cost:
- CrossCountry between Stafford and Manchester Piccadilly
- East Midlands Railway between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly
- LNER between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh
- Merseyrail between Chester and Liverpool Lime Street
- Northern between Crewe/Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly, and Manchester Piccadilly and Preston
- ScotRail between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh
- TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly
- Transport for Wales between Crewe and Chester/Manchester Piccadilly
A spokesperson from Avanti West Coast added that if a train is canceled, passengers can use their ticket on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before or after their booked train. Additionally, if travelers decide not to travel due to delays or cancellations, they can request a full refund from the ticket purchase point.
